Ecology The study of the interactions that take place between organisms and their environment.
Biosphere The portion of Earth that supports living things.
Abiotic Factors Nonliving parts of an environment
Biotic Factors Living parts of an environment
Populations All the members of a single species that live in one area
Communities All the populations that live and interact in one environment
Ecosystems All the populations (biotic) and abiotic factors in an area.
Habitat Place where an organism lives
Niche The role or position a species has in its enviornemt. How it meets its specific needs for food and shelter, how and where it survives, and where it reproduces in its environment.
Mutualism Two organisms interact and both benefit from the relationship.
Parasitism One organism lives off of another. One organism benefits and one organisms if harmed.
Commensalism One organism benefits and the other is unharmed.
Herbivore Hererotroph that only eat plants
Carnivore Organism that only eats other organisms.
Scavengers Organisms that eat dead and decaying animals.
Preditor Organisms that find and eat other organisms
Prey Organisms that are eaten
