Terms for chapter eighteen section one: Modern Biology

| Interdependence | When the survival of organisms depends on interactions with other organism and the non living things within their environment. |
| Ecological Models | Things Ecologists create to help them understand environmental interactions and to make predictions about possible changes. These models may be physical, conceptual, or mathmatical. |
| Biosphere | The broadest, most inclusive level of organization; the thin volume of Earth and it's atmosphere. |
| Ecosystem | Includes all of the organisms and the non living environment found in a particular place. |
| Community | All the interacting organisms living in an area. |
| Population | Includes all the members of a species that live in one place at one time. |
