Organic Compounds

Amino Acids the monomers (small parts) that make up a Protein
Protein an organic compound made of amino acids...these include enzymes, hormones, pigments, antibodies, etc.
Carbohydrate an organic compound made of simple sugars that helps our cells make quick energy
Simple Sugars the monomers (small parts) that make up a carbohydrate (also called glucose)
Nucleotide the monomer (small part) that makes up a nucleic acid
Nucleic Acid an organic molecule made of nucleotides (ex. DNA and RNA)
Lipid an organic molecule that stores energy, keeps us warm and protects our organs
Organic Molecule a molecule found in all living things that must have the three elements, (Carbon, Hydrogen and Oxygen) and is
Inorganic Molecule a molecule that does not contain all three elements, Carbon, Hydrogen and Oxygen...ex. CO2, H2O
Glucose a simple sugar that when connected make up a carbohydrate
Enzyme a type of protein that speeds up chemical reactions in the body.
