Elements of design

What are the elements of design? Space, Line, Shape, Form, Texture, and Color.
What are the principles of design? Balance, Proportion, Rhythm, Emphasis, Unity.
What is the principle repetition? Patterns.
How does texture affect color? Smooth surfaces reflect more light than rough surfaces. Which makes them brighter and lighter.
What do curved lines suggest? It adds a soft, graceful effect to designs.But to many will make a design busy.
What is the difference between horizontal, vertical, and radial balance? Horizontal lines leads eyes left to right and makes rooms appear wider and shorter. Vertical lines lead the eye up and adds more height, formality, and strength.
What do diagonal lines suggest? Action,movement and excitement.
What is space? An area provided for a particular purpose.
What are the four types of rhythm? Regular, Alternating, Progressive, Flowing.
What is asymmetrical balance? Example? Parts of design that are not identical but are equal in visual weight.
What is the difference between horizontal and vertical lines? Horizontal lines leads the eyes left to right and makes rooms appear wider and shorter.It also suggests informality and restfulness. Vertical lines leads the eyes up and make the room appear taller. Also it adds more height, formality and strength.

What is the difference between shape and form? Shape is a flat or silhoutte image and its 2 dimensions. Form is the outlines edges of three deimensional object.
What are the five types of balance? Vertical, Horizontal, Radial, Symmetrical, Asymmetrical.
What does unity or harmony mean? All elements and principles of design work together to create harmony.
What are the two things texture involves? How the surface feels to touch and how it appears to feel.
What are the four types of line? Horizontal, Vertical, Diagonal and Curved.
What is proportion? Parts are teh right size to belong to the whole.
Which of the five types of balance suggests excitement or interest?
What is symmetrical balance? Example? Matching left to right sides of a three demensional object.
What is emphasis? What is another name for it? Focal point in design.
What happens when you use a continuous line? Your eye follows it around.
What is another name for symmetrical balance? Formal balance.
What is another name for asymmetrical balance? Informal balance.
What is the difference between gradation and radiation? Gradation is when designs increase or decrease in size-when one element in deisgn changes. Radiation is when lines or designs move out from the center point.
