Soma Cell body, which contains the nucleus
Dendrite (Message receiver) Branched fibers that conducts info into the neuron and extend
Myelin Sheath Insulating covering of the axon for neurons

Synapse Communication link between neurons
Terminal Buttons Tiny bubble-like structures at the end of the axon which contain neurotransmitters that carry the neurons message into the synapse
Synaptic Vesicles Bubbles that hold the terminal buttons
Neurotransmitters Chemical messengers that relay neural messages across the synapse
Plasticity Ability of the nervous system to adapt or change the result of experience
Glial Cells Provide structural support for neurons
CNS Brain and spinal cord
PNS Autonomatic (Involuntary actions) breathing and heartbeat
Somatic nervous system Voluntary actions, such as walking and talking
Sympathetic Branch (Fight or Flight) sends messages to the internal organs and glands that help us to respond to stressful and emergency situations
Parasympathetic Branch (Normal Balance) Part of the autonomic nervous system that monitors the routine
Endocrine System (The hormone system)The body's chemical messenger system, including the endocrine glands
Hormones A chemical messenger used by the endocrine system
Pituitary Gland Main gland of the body
Agonist Drug/Chemical that enhances or mimics the effects of the NTs
Antagonist Blocks receptor sites
EEG NOT A SCAN. Records brain waves
CT Scan Looks at the brain with x-rays from different angles
PET Scan Glucose in brain (Dye is injected) shows activity
MRI Most detailed picture of the brain
