For many years people have memorized large numbers of facts by creating flashcards. By writing a question on one side of an
index card and then writing the answer on the other, students easily create a very versatile study tool. Students
can quiz themselves on what they need to learn and easily place the flashcards into either the pile of cards that they have mastered or
the pile of cards they still need to study. Then you just frequently repeat this process until the facts on the cards had been learned.
However, these paper flashcards do have drawbacks. For example, creating a duplicate set of flashcards for someone else to use is
a time consuming process that few students will do. Also, this stack of physical cards would be just another item that students would have to
carry around with all their other books.
StudyStack has computerized the idea of flashcards eliminating the disadvantages of physical flashcards. These electronics flashcards
can easily be shared. In addition, apps displaying these computerized flashcards can be placed on a smartphone, tablet, or laptops that most students
are already carrying around with them. Or since flashcards can be stored "on the cloud," students can retrieve their flashcards from any
internet connected computer.
StudyStack takes online flashcards to a whole new level. The site automatically creates many other activities based on the data from your flashcards. These activities have two main benefits. The first is that studying won't be so boring. So without even realizing it you'll naturally study more. The second benefit is that by reviewing the data in several different formats, you'll end up memorizing the information better as your brain makes several different connections with the data.
StudyStack will continue to create new activities using your flashcard data. If you have any suggestions, please fill out the comment form or send an email to suggestions@studystack.com.
