Classification: Psychological Disorders

What is an Adjustment Disorder? an emotional and behavioral reaction that develops within 3 months of a life stress, and which is stronger or greater than what would be expected for the type of event that occurred.
What is an Anxiety Disorder? an overwhelming feelings of panic and fear, uncontrollable obsessive thoughts, painful, intrusive memories, recurring nightmares. Can have physical symptoms such as startling easily and "butterflies" in your stomach.
What is a Cognitive Disorder a significant impairment of memory that represents a marked deterioration from a previous level of functioning.
What is a Developmental Disorder? a group of conditions that involve delays in the development of many basic skills, most notably the ability to socialize with others, to communicate, and to use imagination. Makes it hard to understand the word around you.
What are Dissociation Disorders? the breakdown of one’s perception of his/her surroundings, memory, identity, or consciousness.
What is an Eating Disorder? a severe disturbances in eating behavior, such as extreme reduction of food intake or extreme overeating, or feelings of extreme distress or concern about body weight or shape.
What is a Factitious Disorder? a mental disorder in which a person acts as if he or she has a physical or mental illness when, in fact, he or she has consciously created his or her symptoms.
What is an Impulse-Control Disorder? a behavior that is acted out in an uncontrolled, and impulsive manner that often has self-destructive consequences.
What is a Mental Disorder due to a General Medical Condition? are prominent hallucinations or delusions that are judged to be due to the direct physiological effects of a general medical condition
What are Mood Disorders? different types of depressions
