Empiricism: What is it? Who developed it? John Locke developed this concept, it means born with no knowledge and knowledge is received through observation and experience
Nativism means a person is born with all their knowledge
“Tabula Rasa” means blank tablet
Wilhelm Wundt he's the founding father of psychology and developed introspection
Introspection a method of self observation to collect information of the mind
Dualism means the mind and body are separate
Central Nervous System (CNS) is the brain, spinal cord, and brain stem
Sigmund Freud he came up with psychoanalysis which is the study focused on the unconscious mind and he developed free association which is a technique for indirectly studying the unconscious process
3(ish) Goals of Psych understand, predict, control, and describe behavior
Peripheral Nervous System are nerves leading from the spinal cord and brain stem to various parts of the body (spinal nerves and cranial nerves) and broken down into autonomic and somatic nervous systems
Autonomic Nervous System (ANS) controls involuntary muscles, and broken down into sympathetic and parasympathetic
Sympathetic division expends energy
Parasympathetic division conserves energy
Somatic Nervous System controls voluntary muscles
