Individualizing Client Care to analyze dietary status

TermDefinition
Assessment An organized procedure to gather pertinent facts.
Analysis The process of breaking a complex topic or substance into smaller parts in order to gain a better understanding of it.
Diagnosis Realting to scientific and skillful methods to eastablish the cause and nature of a sick person's illness.
Nutritional Status Requirement of health of a person convinced by the diet, the levels of nutrients containing in the body and normal metabolic integrity.
Dietary Status Description of what a person has been eating.
Nutritional Assessment The interpretation of anthropometric, biochemical (laboratory), clinical and dietary data to determine whether a person or groups of people are well nourished or malnourished.
Anthropometric Measurements Physical measuresments of the human body such as height, weight, and skinfold thickness; used to determine body composition and growth
Subjective Data Subjective data are information from the client's point of view (“symptoms”), including feelings, perceptions, and concerns obtained through interviews.
Objective Data Objective data are observable and measurable data (“signs”) obtained through observation, physical examination, and laboratory and diagnostic testing.
Anthropometry The science of measuring the human body.
Triceps Skinfold The width of a fold of skin taken over the triceps muscle.
Midarm Circumference The circumference of the left upper arm, measured at the mid-point between the tip of the shoulder and the tip of the elbow.
Abdominal Circumference (girth) Distance around the trunk at the umbilicus.
Underwater Weighing Most accurate measure of body fatness.
Dual-energy X-ray Absorptiometry (DEXA) Diagnostic test using two x-ray beams to determine body composition.
Ultrasound Bone Densitometer Machine that uses sound waves to estimate bone density as a screening test.
Bioelectrical Impedance Test Is a commonly used method for estimating body composition, in particular body fat and muscle mass.
Fat-Free Mass Refers to all of your body components except fat.
Healthy body Weight (HBW) Estimate of a weight suitable for an individual based pn frame size and height and weight tables.
Body Mass Index (BMI) Weight in kilograms divided by the square of height in meters.
Adipose Tissue Tissue that contain masses of fat cells.
Waist-to-hip Ratio (WHR) The dimensionless ratio of the circumference of the waist to that of the hips.
Dietary Reference Intakes (DRIs) A generic term for a set of nutrient reference values that includes the Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA), Adequate Intake (AI), Tolerable Upper Intake Level (UL), and Estimated Average Requirement (EAR).
Estimated Average Requirements (EARs) Intake that meets the estimated nutrient need of 50% of the individuals in a life-stage and gender group.
Recommended Dietary Allowances (RDA) The levels of intake of essential nutrients that, on the basis of scientific knowledge, are judged by the Food and Nutrition Board to be adequate to meet the known nutrient needs of practically all healthy persons.
Adequate Intakes (AIs) The average observed or experimentally defined intake by a defined population or subgroup that appears to sustain a defined nutritional state.
Acceptable Macronutrient Distribution Range (AMDR) The range of intake for a particular energy source that is associated with reduced risk of chronic.
Tolerable Upper Intake Levels (ULs) The highest level of daily nutrient intake that is likely to pose no risk of adverse health effects to almost all individuals in the general population.
Exchange Lists provide a way of grouping foods together to help people on special diets stay on track.
Balanced diet One including sufficient foods from each of the major food groups daily.
SOAP SOAP is a messaging protocol specification for exchanging structured information in the implementation of web services in computer networks. Its purpose is to provide extensibility, neutrality, verbosity and independence.
Culture The learned, shared, and transmitted values, beliefs, and norms of that particular group that guides its way of thinking, decisions and actions in patterned ways.
Ethnocentrism Evaluation of other cultures according to preconceptions originating in the standards and customs of one's own culture.
Acculturation The process of adopting the values, attitudes, and behaviors of another culture.
