ECE2-00 Orientation to ECE Year 2

TermDefinition
Portfolio (1) a collection of samples of a person's work put together to show his/her capabilities and qualifications
Philosophy (2) general beliefs. concepts, and attitudes an early childhood program has about how children learn and how the program should serve and educate children
Professionalism (1) The ability to communicate (spoken/written), behave and dress in a way that promotes and demonstrates respect, leadership and good manners
Collaborative planning (6) Working together with other teachers to plan best possible lessons and a safe environment for children.
NAEYC (2, 10) The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) is the world's largest organization working on behalf of young children. A professional organization.
Developmentally Appropriate Practice (3) Activities that are geared to different levels of ability and development in order to accommodate all children in a program
Professional Association (i.e. PAGE, NAEYC) (2) an organization designed to organize professionals, keep their knowledge up to date in the given industry, and provide liability insurance. PAGE is an example.
Observation (3) A method of learning about children and helping them based on what we are able to see and hear when with them.
Mandated Reporter (9) A requirement for all child care teachers to report any suspicion of abuse or neglect of children in their care.
Learning objective (2) specific details on what the student should learn (3 part: conditions, observable behavior, level of performance
Assessment (3) Certain tasks or products used to verify knowledge or skills a student has.
Positive guidance (2) Telling students/children what you WANT them to do instead of what you want them to stop.
Licensing of Daycare/Preschool (11) Meeting all minimum legal requirements and inspections to operate a day care or preschool in the respective state of business.
Memory Book Pages (1) A project (photo page) created on card stock for use in Preschool memory books
FCCLA (1) Family Career and Community Leaders of America, a student organization that exists to allow students to develop leadership skills, earn recognition, and travel.
Teens Teaching Tots Preschool (6) An onsite preschool offered at UGHS from January - April each year to give students the opportunity to be Teachers
CDC (7, 8) Centers for Disease Control. Supports health promotion, prevention and preparedness activities in the U. S, with the goal of improving overall public health.
CPR and 1st Aid (10) Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation and immediate care that is offered in case of injury, accident or health condition.
Professional Ethics (2) The roles and expectations of teachers and others who work with and lead children. There are ethics standards for most professions.
Exceptional Learners (Learning Disabilities) (4) Children who struggle to learn and behave appropriately at school due to processing shortfalls
Nutrition and Food Safety (5) The practice of providing the right type , amount and carefully handled food so that children remain healthy and grow and develop well.
