impulse buying Making an unplanned or quick purchase without giving it much thought.
sale A special selling of goods or services at a reduced price.
comparison shopping Comparing products and prices in different stores before making a purchase.
computer-aided design (CAD) Graphics software that assists in creating a design.
simulation software Computer software that imitates an actual experience.
obsolescence The state of uselessness
advertisement A paid public message about goods and services for sale, which is communicated through various media.
bait and switch A deceptive advertising method in which the advertiser offers a low-priced item as bait to get shoppers in the store. Once shoppers are in the store, the advertiser tries to switch them to a more expensive item.
Food and Drug Administration (FDA) A government agency that helps protect consumer safety by regulating the production, packaging, and labeling of foods, drugs, and cosmetics
Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) A government agency that sets and enforces safety standards for consumer products and handles consumer complaints.
redress To solve a problem.
warranty A written promise by a manufacturer that a product will meet speciļ¬ed standards of performance.
