How to Cook

What needs to be done to fruits and vegetables before eating raw or cooking? Wash them in cool running water.
What is ascorbic acid? This is vitamin C found in citrus fruits, that can keep cut slices of fruits like bananas and apples from turning brown.
What is a GMO It means that some DNA of a fruit or vegetable crop has been changed to improve its production. It produces larger, insect-resistant produce, helping to feed the world.
How do we find fruits and vegetables? fresh, dried, canned, and frozen
What happens to jello if you put fresh pineapple in the jello? The jello does not congeal or get firm.
What does translucent mean? Cooking on low heat until the fruit is clear enough to allow light to pass through but not transparent.
What are some ways to cook fruit? Simmer, stew, broil, or microwave.
What are some ways to cook vegetables? Steam, simmer, stir-fried, roasted, or microwave
What is the definition of stir-frying? To fry quickly over high heat in lightly oiled pan while stirring continuously.
What is a wok? A cooking pan used to stir-fry.
Why is steaming, roasting, and microwaving a good option for cooking vegetables? They retain their nutrients.
What does rehydrated mean? Dried foods that have been restored to their natural state by adding water before cooking.
What is a vegetable brush? A tool with stiff bristles on the end used to remove some dirt from vegetables.
How do you cook vegetables? For the most flavor, cook vegetables until they are tender, but slightly crisp
