Color Terms

What is a monochromatic color scheme? Achieved by using tints and shades of only one color ex: navy blue, bright blue, and baby blue
What is an analogous color scheme? Made up of three or more colors that are next to each other on the color wheel ex: red, red-violet, violet ex: blue, blue-green, green
What is an accented neutral color scheme? Mostly neutral colors with one or more splashes of color from the color wheel
What color scheme is 2 colors opposite on the color wheel. Complementary color scheme
How many colors in a split complementary color scheme? Three
Name the Primary colors. Red, Blue, Yellow
Name the secondary colors. Violet, Green, Orange
What is the value of a color? The lightness and darkness of a color
What is the intensity of a color mean? The brightness or dullness of a color
What is the hue? The color itself, another word for color
How do you make a tint? By mixing a saturated color with pure white and the more white, the lighter the color will become
How do you make a shade? By mixing a saturated color with pure black and the more black, the darker the color will become
What are the warm colors? Red, Orange, Yellow
What are the cool colors.? Blue, Green, Violet
What are the neutral colors? Black, Grey, White, Brown, Tan
What is unique about the primary colors? They are three basic colors that are used to create all of the other colors and you cannot achieve these colors by mixing any other colors together.
Name 3 tertiary colors. Red-Violet, Blue-green, Red-orange
What is the proper way to name a tertiary color? The primary color is always listed first
What is another name for a tertiary color? Intermediate
What is a triadic color scheme? three colors that are located within equal distance of each other ex: red, blue, yellow
