What are the principles of design? Balance, Rhythm, Proportion, Emphasis & Harmony.
What is the principle repetition? When an element repeats itself throughout a design.
How does texture affect color? Smooth Textures- Reflects light and makes the color look lighter. Rough Textures- Observe light and look darker & duller.
What do curved lines suggest? Natural & casual.
What is the difference between horizontal, vertical and radial balance? The all show balance in different ways.
What do diagonal lines suggest? Movement, action & excitement.
What is space? Space is how much room we have to design. (Size of the room)
What are the four types of rhythm? Regular, Random, Graduated & Gradation.
What is asymmetrical balance? Explain. Asymmetrical is when the design is not exactly the same on both sides, yet it is really similar.
What is the difference between horizontal & vertical lines? Vertical lines are more formal and strong while horizontal lines are more comfortable & relaxing.
What is the golden mean ratio? The ratio is 3:5.
What is the difference between shape & form? Form is 3D and shape is 2D.
What are the five types of balance? Radio balance, Vertical balance, Horizontal balance, Symmetrical Balance and Asymmetrical balance.
What does unity or harmony mean? This means that all of the elements in a design come together to create a harmonious effect.
What are the two things that texture involves? How the object really feels and how the object looks.
What are the four types of line? Horizontal, Vertical, Diagonal & Curved.
What is proportion? The way in which parts relate to a design in a whole.
Which of the five types of balance suggests excitement or interest? Asymmetrical.
What is symmetrical balance? Example. When something is the same on both sides. Two matching pillows on one side, same pillows on the other side.
What is emphasis? What is another name for it? Emphasis in design provides the focal point for the piece. It is a way of making the element that is most important stand out in the design. Emphasis is sometimes called dominance.
What happens when you use a continuous line? You add a natural and casual theme to the room.
What is another name for symmetrical balance? Formal balance.
What is another name for asymmetrical balance? Informal balance.
