What are the principles of design? balance, rhythm, proportion/scale, emphasis, harmony, gradation, repetition, contrast
What is the principle repetition? using the same thing over and over
How does texture affect color? you can see different shades of a color depending on the texture
What do curved lines suggest? energy
What is the difference between horizontal, vertical, and radial balance? horizontal is side to side. vertical is up and down. radial is a round object going outwards.
What do diagonal lines suggest? movement
What is space? an area
What are the four types of rhythm? regular, graduated, random repetition, gradation
What is asymmetrical balance? Example? visually balanced but different on both sides
What is the difference between horizontal and vertical lines? they go different directions
What is the golden mean? 3-5
What is the difference between shape and form? shape is the same shape repeated throughout a room
What are the five types of balance? symmetrical, asymmetrical, radial, formal, informal
What does unity or harmony mean? brings together composition with similar units
What are the two things texture involves? the way it feels/think it feels
What are the four types of line? horizontal, diagonal, vertical, curved
What is proportion? an object is the right size compared to its surroundings
Which of the five types of balance suggests excitement or interest? symmetrical, asymmetrical, radial, formal, informal
What is symmetrical balance? Example? it looks the same on both sides
What is emphasis? What is another name for it? to draw attention to something
What happens when you use a continuous line? makes a room look longer
What is another name for symmetrical balance? formal balance
What is another name for asymmetrical balance? informal balance
What is the difference between gradation and radiation? gradation is a change in color or size and radiation is a round object going outwards
