TermDefinition
Trimester A period of about three months.
Conceptions Union of a sperm cell and an egg cell
Zygote Two seperate cells get turn into one cell.
Prenatal development All development that occurs between conception and birth.
Placenta A special organ that fuctions as an interchange between the developing baby and its mother.
Blastocyst The new organism has debeloped into a hollow bsll of cells.
Umbilical cord The flexible cord that contains blood vessels and connects the baby to the placenta.
Amniotic fluid Fluid that surrounds the baby.
Embryo The developing baby
Fetus From the ninth week of pregnancy until birth the developing baby
Misscarriage The natural ending of a pregnancy before the fifth month.
Stillbirth The natural ending of a pregnancy after the fifth month.
Pregnancy-induced hypertension A condition that affects a womans kidneys heart or blood circulations.
Rubella A virus that can cause miscarriage, stillbirth, or serious congenital disorders.
Sexually transmitted diseases A number of infections and conditions that are passed from one person to another.
Rh factor disorder Occurs when a mother who is Rh- gives birth to a baby who is Rh+
HIV A virus that enters a persons body and slowly begins to destroy the immune system can no longer protect.
