Disruptive Behaviour Disorders 3: CD

QuestionAnswer
Types of temperament and low frustration tolerance are what type of influences that can increase risk of child getting disorder? Genetic influences
Parent psychopathology refers to...? Things that run in the family
In terms of Parent psychopathology, if the parent has a negative temperament, then the child is likely to have this as well. The parents would be providing a ___________ environment for the child which increases the risk of the child developing ____ or __ negative, ODD or CD
In terms of Parent psychopathology if the parent has a disorder than the child has an increases _____ of getting it as well but this is not _______________ risk, guaranteed
In terms of Parent psychopathology if parents have ASPD or CD then they are going to model ____________ behaviour such as violence, __________ abuse, temperament style, c_____________ and ____________ seeking. anti-social, substance, compulsivity, sensation
In terms of Parent psychopathology Maternal deficit can also increase the risk. Why is this? If one parent is in jail the child will be being brought up by one parent of in a complex situation. So there may be neglect, and not enough household money (as spent on substances) for food and education.
In terms of Parent psychopathology if the parents are depresses how will this affect the child? Child has a higher chance of neglect as parents will not feel like getting out of bed and engaging with the children
In terms of psychobiology our cortical level is our ________ hormone which is involved in regulating _________. It has been found that ___ children have a _________ Cortisol level. stress, stress, lower
Because ODD children have lower Cortisol level, we think that disruption in physiology is linked to a child's ___________ and low ____________ threshold as they cannot handle stress well temperament, frustration
In terms of Family influences lower parental supervision increases risk. If a child is not provided with food, they will ____others lunches or ___ them for their lunch. They may also get ___ and go to _____ instead of being at home because no one will ___ steal, bully, drugs, parties, notice
In terms of Family influences if parents give harsh punishments then child will _____ and if they _______ child the child will get away with doing bad things. So in both cases this ______ risk. There is a high extreme and low extreme of involvement harsh, rebel, increases
What theoretical and behavioural model works on the idea of negative reinforcement and involves the interaction between the household environment and the temperament of the child? Patterson's Bidirectional hypothesis
With Patterson's Bidirectional hypothesis, its suggests that a child is at risk even in a functioning household because the parents may not know.....? how to treat, bring up the child
Patterson's Bidirectional hypothesis suggests that child's at risk even in functioning household because parents may not know how to treat the child. They may just give the child want it wants when having a __ which __ reinforces the child's bad behaviour tantrum, positively
So with Patterson's Bidirectional hypothesis, if the child is not parented properly earlier on then the child is at risk of developing ___. To prevent this, the child needs to be ____ in such a way that sets ____ by not giving them everything they want ODD, reinforced, boundaries,
So what does the Patterson's Bidirectional hypothesis refer to? The theoretical and behavioural model that works on the idea of negative reinforcement and involves the interaction between the household environment and the temperament of the child
What theoretical model is about how you interpret a situation - your cognitive functioning being an important role? The Social-Cognitive/Information Processing Bias
The Social-Cognitive/Information Processing Bias, suggests that __________ functioning is an important role and that __ is related to functioning cognitive, IQ
According to the the Social-Cognitive/Information Processing Bias, low IQ children often dont understand ______ cues and b_______ language which ia a risk factor for developing difficulties because you are not good at reading social situations. social, body
The Soc.-Cogn./Info.Proc. Bias also suggests those with lowIQ lag in language development which increases risk because __ is import. factor that helps child self-__ & regulate by selftalk (talk self thru situations) and communicate to others how they feel language, control
So the Social-Cognitive/Information Processing Bias shows that poor v________ language skills are also related verbal
Peer influences increase risk as other children dont want to plat with child who has t_____ all the time. Then in adolescence these badly behaved kids get together and learn __ off each other and feed off each other tantrums, tips
List the 5 types of treatment options for ODD and CD Parents management training, Behavioural/Contingency Management, Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy, Psychopharmacological, Multi-systemic therapy
What treatment options this? "is matter of going thru basic behaviour training and teaching parents. It helps parents to recognize concept of bidirectional relationhips thats going on & how that breaks the cycle. Gives parents right strategies such as?" Parents management training and strategies such as focusing on rewards not the negative feedback so that instead, they gain or lose positive rewards
What treatment options this? "Medication such as Ritalin stimulant is used in more extreme cases such as extremely aggressive children. Medication can come in form of anti-psychotics to sudate and calm them down or anti depressants to calm them down" Psychopharmacological
What treatment options this? "involves strategy of using rewards - gaining or losing rewards based on positive or negative behaviours. You want to focus on positive rewards as they have has lots of negative feedback in the past" Behavioural/Contingency Management
What treatment options this? "Here they modify child's negative beliefs about the world being a scary place. You need to work on their thoughts and attributions so that they feel less likely to respond in a negative way" Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy
What treatment options this? "Focuses on intervention with school - so not just child but focus on environment as well. Only used in extreme cases and is expensive so only have a couple of cases of extreme cases, labour intensive but is very effective" Multi-Systemic THerapy
Medication can come in two forms for ODD and CD. What are they? Anti-psychotics such as Ritalin to sudate and calm them down and anti-depressants to calm them down.
Why do only extreme cases get the Multi-System Therapy? Because it is very labour intensive and expensive
