Nodule | A solid mass of tissue that has the dimension of depth. Less than 1 cm in diameter, extend deeper than papules into the dermis |
Tumor | A solid mass of tissue larger than 1 cm in diameter |
Cyst | An epithelially lined, often fluide-filled mass in the dermis or subcutaneous tissue |
Vesicle | Circumscribed, fluid-filled elevation that is less than 1 cm in diameter. |
Pustule | Circumscribed elevation filled with purulent exudate resulting from an infection |
Plaque | A flat, solid, raised area that is greater than 1 cm in diameter |
Papule | A superficial, elevated, solid lesion that is smaller than 1 cm in diameter |
Bulla | A vesicle that is greater than 1 cm. and fluid filled |
Fissure | A normal or abnormal linear cleft in the epidermis |
Erosion | A soft tissue lesion in which the epithelium above the basal cell layer is denuded |
Patch | A circumscribed area larger than 1 cm and differentiated from surrounding epidermis by color, texture or both |
Macule | A well-circumscribed area of epidermis or mucosa distinguished by color from its surroundings, 1 cm or smaller |
ulcer | A wound that exhibits necrosis extending beyond the basal layer of epithelium and into the dermis |
sinus | An abnormal tract or fistula that leads from a cyst to the surface of the epidermis |
Multilocular | Soap-bubble appearance |
Diffuse | Not well-defined borders |
Unilocular | Having one well-defined compartment |
Papillary | Cauliflower-like surface texture |
Pedunculated | Stalk-like base |
Sessile | Broad flat base |
