Question | Answer |
What are planes | slices in spa ce, continue on infinately in all directions |
Planes within the body | divide body into panels within which movement occurs-unify the language that is used to describe a movement-MOTION OCCURS WITHIN A PLANE |
three anatomical planes | sagital, frontal, transverse |
Sagital | seperates body into left and right |
frotnal plane | separates body into front and back sections |
Transverse/horizontal plane | serperates body into top(superior) and bottom sections |
Axes | perpendicular to each plane-MOTION OCCURS ABOUT AN AXES- |
Axes in the body | bilateral, antero-posterior, polar |
Bilateral | passes from left to right, perpendicular to the sagital plane, motion in the sagital plane occurs about this axis |
Anterio-posterior | passes from front to back, perpendicular to the frontal plane, motion that occurs in frontal plane is about this axis |
Polar | pases from top to bottom and perpendicular to the transverse plan-motion in the transcerse plane always about the polar axis |
Example of Motion in the Sagital Plane | standing in anatomical neutral-elbow flexes **about the bilateral axis |
Example of motion in the frontal plane | standing in anatomical neutral-arm is swung up like a jumping jack(ABDuction) **about the anterio-posterior axis |
Example of motion in the transverse plane | standing in anatomical neutral-head is rotated from side to side(cervical rotation) **about the polar axis |
