Bitetab | An extention, usually made of paper, attached to film packet to stabilize film during BW exposure. |
Bitewing radiograph | An intraoral radiograph that shows the crowns of both upper and lower teeth on the same x-ray. |
Contact points | Area of tooth surface that touches another tooth. |
Embrasures | The interproximal space under the contact points of adjacent teeth. |
External aiming device | Indicator ring on the XCP/RINN system. |
Film loop | Bitewing loop, cardboard loop used as a film holder in a BWX. |
Horizontal bitewing radiograph | Bitewing x-ray placed in the oral cavity horizontally. |
Interproximal radiograph | BWX's primarily for cavity detecting. |
Negative angulation | When the PID is tipped upward to direct the x-rays toward the ceiling. (-angulation) |
Overlap | Distoration of the tooth image when adjacent teeth are superimposed on each other. Incorrect horizontal angulation. |
Point of entry | Spot on the face in which radiation is directed when exposing intraoral x-rays. |
Positive angulation | When the PID is tipped downward to direct radiation toward the ground. (+angulation) |
Vertical angulation | Direction of the central beam in a vertical plane. (up or down) |
Vertical bitewing radiograph | BWX placed in the oral cavity vertically. |
Horizontal angulation | Direction of the central beam in a horizontal plane. (mesial or distal) |
