Common Noun | general noun (not capitalized) |
Proper Noun | specific nouns (capitalized) |
Concrete | object that can be seen, heard, smelled, touched, or tasted |
Abstract | names something that cannot be perceived through the senses - an idea, feeling, quality or characteristics |
Collective | names a group |
Compound | contains two or more words |
Pronoun | word that takes place of a noun |
Noun | person, place, thing, or idea telling who or what |
Antecedent | the noun or pronoun that a pronoun takes the place of |
Demonstrative | points something out (this, that, these, those) |
Personal Pronouns | first person, second person, third person (nominative, objective, possessive) |
Indefinite Pronouns | refers to a person, place, or thing that may or may not be specifically named |
Adjective | word used to modify (describe the word to make its meaning more definite) noun or pronoun |
Demonstrative Adjectives | when used in place of a noun, these words are pronouns when used to describe a noun they are adjectives |
Proper Adjective | an adjective formed from proper noun and begins with a capital letter |
Linking Verb | connects the subject to a word or group of words that identifies or describes the subject |
Adverb | word that modifies a verb, adjective, or another verb |
Verb | what you do, how you do it |
Recessive | stresses a word in a sentence |
Reflexive | indicates action upon the subject itself |
