Actions | 1. Inhibits blood clotting 2. Combines with antithrombin IIIa naturally occurring anti-clotting factor in plasma, and inhibits conversion of prothrombintothrombin 3.interferes with the actions of other clotting factors and with fibrin stabilising factor |
Use | Patients with an acute ST elevation myocardial infarction who meet the requirements for early percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) |
Adv effects | 1. Bleeding 2. Anaphylactoid reactions (rare) 3. Thrombocytopenia |
Contraindications | Use PCI checklist |
Precautions | Use with care in patients with extensive history of allergies |
Dose | Adults: 5000u IV, over 30 – 60 seconds |
Spec note | This treatment should not delay transport time to hospital |
