| Cell | The smallest functional and structural unit of all living organisms |
| Organism | Any living thing |
| Cell Membrane | Protective layer that covers a cell's surface and acts as a barrier between the inside of a cell and the cell's environment |
| Cytoplasm | The region enclosed by the cell membrane that includes the fluid and all the organelles |
| Organelle | A small body in a cell's cytoplasm that is specialized to perform a specific function |
| Nucleus | The brain of the cell that contains the DNA in eukaryotic cells |
| Microscope | An instrument that makes small objects look larger |
| Cell Theory | A widely accepted explanation of the relationship between cells and living things |
| Mitochondria | Cellular respiration occurs here. Powerhouse of the cell. Has its own DNA. |
| Structure | What it looks like or is made of. |
| Function | Its job or what it does. |
| Cell Wall | The rigid supporting layer that surrounds the cells of plants and some other organisms. |
| Vacuole | A sac-like organelle that stores waste, food, or other materials needed by the cells. |
| Chloroplast | An organelle in the cells of plants and some other organisms that captures energy from sunlight and changes it to an energy form that cells can use in making food. |
