Question | Answer |
Purpose of the Respiratory System | Deliver Oxygen to the bloodstream and remove Carbon Dioxide from it |
Purpose of the Circulatory System | Carry Oxygen and nutrients to your body's cells and waste away from them |
Purpose of the Digestive System | Break food down into usable nutrients and introduce them into the bloodstream |
Parts of Circulatory System | Atria, Ventricles, Blood cells, Cardiac muscle, Arteries, Veins, Capillaries, Valves |
Parts of the Respiratory System | Lungs, Diaphragm, Trachea, Bronchi, Alveoli, Cilia |
Parts of the Digestive System | Esophagus, Stomach, Small intestine, Large intestine, Liver |
Other Terms which go with the Circulatory System | Cardiac muscle, High blood pressure |
Other Terms which go with the Respiratory System | Emphysema, Asthma, Speech, Nicotine, Tar |
Other Terms which go with the Digestive System | Smooth muscle, Acid, Energy, helpful bacteria |
Stomach | Where most mechanical digestion occurs |
Pharynx (throat) | Shared by two systems (Respiratory - breathing and Digestive - eating) |
Arteries | Blood vessels (tubes) which carry blood away from the heart - you feel your pulse in them |
Veins | Blood vessels (tubes) which carry blood back to the heart |
Epiglottis | Seals the Trachea when you swallow (so food doesn't go into your lungs) |
Cilia | Little hairs which keep your respiratory system clean by 'sweeping' out dust and other particles |
Fiber | Cannot be digested and helps move food through the digestive system |
Saliva | Starts to chemically break down food in our mouths |
Mucus | Slimy stuff which traps dust and dirt and helps keep our Respiratory Systems clean |
Tar | Substance found in cigarettes causes cilia to clump together, keeping them from cleaning your Respiratory System |
Nicotine | Addicting substance in cigarettes which increases the blood pressure and speeds up the nervous system, heart, and other organs |
