Stomach Where most mechanical digestion occurs
Pharynx (throat) Shared by two systems (Respiratory - breathing and Digestive - eating)
Arteries Blood vessels (tubes) which carry blood away from the heart - you feel your pulse in them
Veins Blood vessels (tubes) which carry blood back to the heart
Epiglottis Seals the Trachea when you swallow (so food doesn't go into your lungs)
Cilia Little hairs which keep your respiratory system clean by 'sweeping' out dust and other particles
Fiber Cannot be digested and helps move food through the digestive system
Saliva Starts to chemically break down food in our mouths
Mucus Slimy stuff which traps dust and dirt and helps keep our Respiratory Systems clean
Tar Substance found in cigarettes causes cilia to clump together, keeping them from cleaning your Respiratory System
Nicotine Addicting substance in cigarettes which increases the blood pressure and speeds up the nervous system, heart, and other organs
