| Classification | A system that sorts living organisms based on shared DNA and characteristics. |
| Taxonomy | The science of sorting and naming living things |
| Binomial nomenclature | A 2-word system used to name organisms using their genus and species. |
| Domain | The largest and least specific level of classification |
| Species | The smallest and most specific level of classification |
| Domain Kingdom Phylum Class Order Family Genus Species | Does King Philip Come Over for Good Spaghetti |
| Prokaryotic | Cells without a nucleus |
| Eukaryotic | Cells with a nucleus |
| Asexual reproduction | Creates identical copies of the 1 parent organism |
| Sexual reproduction | Creates offspring with a unique combination of DNA from the 2 parent organisms |
| Autotroph | An organism that can make it's own energy |
| Heterotroph | An organism who needs to get energy by eating other things, or by absorbing it |
| Locomotion | The ability to move |
| Unicellular | An organism with only 1 cell |
| Multicellular | An organism with more than 1 cell |
| Domain Eukarya | The domain including all eukaryotic organisms |
| Monera | Another word for the kingdom that includes bacteria. Prokaryotic, unicellular, reproduce asexually. |
| Animals | Eukaryotic, multicellular, can move, heterotrophic |
| Plants | Eukaryotic, multicellular*, can't move, autotrophic |
| Fungi | Eukaryotic, multicellular*, can't move, heterotrophic |
| Protist | Any eukaryotic organism that isn't an animal, plant, or fungus |
| Vertebrates / Chordata | A phylum of animals that includes animals with bones and a spinal cord |
| Invertebrates | Animals that don't have bones |
