| Term | Definition |
| cell wall | gives the cell strength and stiffness. This helps the cell keep its shape. |
| vacuoles | Used for storage, vacuoles usually contain water or food. (Are you are thirsty? Perhaps your vacuoles need some water!) |
| cytoplasm | fills the space inside the cell membrane/ fills most space |
| chromosomes | contain the information that the cell uses for growth and activities. In plant and animal cells, the chromosomes are inside the nucleus. |
| mitochondria | make energy out of food/break down sugar to release energy that the cell can use. |
| cell membrane | to control which substances leave and enter the cell |
| nucleus | directs cell activities. It does this by sending instructions to different parts of the cell. |
| chloroplasts | use water, carbon dioxide, and energy from sunlight to make sugar. This sugar is the plant cell's food. |
