Term | Definition |
Light | an electromagnetic wave that travels in waves and can be seen when it interacts with matter |
Transmission | movement of light through matter |
Reflection | light bouncing off of a surface |
Refraction | light being bent as it enters a different medium |
Absorption | the transfer of light energy (electromagnetic energy) to particles in matter |
Transparent | matter that transmits light easily (water, glass, air) |
Translucent | matter that transmits light, but scatters it (waxed paper, frosted glass) |
Opaque | matter that does not transmit light (construction paper, foil) |
Angle of Incidence | the initial angle a light ray strikes an object (=angle of reflection) |
Angle of Reflection | the resulting angle a light ray bouncing off an object (=angle of incidence) |
