1. | Make a safe approach. Look carefully for danger. |
2. | Assess conscious level by "shaking and shouting". |
3. | Shout loudly for help from a passerby. |
4. | Open airway with head tilt, chin lift and, with thumb on chin, open mouth. |
5. | Bring hand performing head tilt around to behind the angle of the jaw and maintain an open airway. |
6. | Bring fingers of other hand (which was performing chin lift) down and feel for circo thyroid gap landmark. |
7. | Rest middle phalanx of your middle finger on gap and feel for common carotid pulse with tips of index and middle fingers. |
8. | While maintaining an open airway "look, listen and feel" to assess breathing and carotid pulse simultaneously. |
9. | Recognise that casualty is unconscious but breathing normally and has a pulse. |
10. | Feel in casualty's pocket to remove bulky or sharp objects. |
11. | Straighten both of casualty's legs. |
12. | Place nearest arm in correct right angle position. |
13. | Place furthest arm in correct position with back of his hand on the side of face nearest you. |
14. | Pull up furthest away knee and roll casualty towards you. |
15. | Adjust the upper leg (so that both the hip and knee are bent at right angles). |
16. | Tilt the head back (to keep the airway open). |
17. | Adjust the hand under the cheek to keep head tilted. |
18. | Check that the casualty is breathing satisfactorily. |
19. | Go, or ask another person, to phone for an ambulance. |
20. | Carry out these procedures in the correct order. |
