iris | a muscle that controls the amount of light entering the eye |
lens | a clear part of the eye that changes shape as you view things at different distances |
lens muscle | a muscle that pulls on the lens and changes its shape |
nearsighted | being able to see clearly close up but not far away |
olfactory nerve | a nerve that carries messages from the nose to the brain |
optic nerve | a nerve that carries messages from the retina to the brain |
pupil | an opening in the center of the iris through which light enters the eye |
retina | a structure in the back of the eye made of light-detecting nerve cells |
rod | nerve cells that detect motion and help us to tell if an object is light or dark |
sclera | the tough, white outer covering of the eye |
semicircular canals | inner ear parts that help us keep our balance |
sense organ | parts of the nervous system that tell an animal what is going on around it |
taste bud | nerve cells in the tongue that detect chemical molecules |
vitreous humor | a jelly-like material inside the eye |
