| Bioclastic sedimentary rock | made by living organisms or composed mostly of materials from life forms. Also called organic sedimentary rock. |
| Cementation | minerals dissolved in water "glue" the sediment together |
| Chemical sedimentary rock | rock made from material that was precipitated from water |
| Clastic sedimentary rock | made of broken fragments of rock |
| Compaction | sediments are squeezed together by the weight of the rock layers above |
| Deposition | dropping of sediments. Occurs when agents of erosion(water, wind, glacier) can no longer carry the sediment. |

| Sediment | loose particles created by the breakdown of rocks |
