| habitat | the place where an organism lives |
| inherited traits | characteristics or attributes of an organism that are passed down from parent to offspring |
| learned behaviors | the actions or reactions of an organism in response to internal or external stimuli; a skill an organism aquires |
| offspring | a living organism that is made when a plant or animal reproduces |
| species | a group of organisms consisting of similar organisms that is capable of exchanging genes or interbreeding |
| structure | a body part that does a certain job for the organism; ex. webbed feet help ducks to swim |
| survive | continue to live or exist especially in spite of danger or hardship |
| hibernate | to spend winter in an inactive or dormant state in response to extreme temperatures |
| migration | to move from one region or one habitat to another in response to the change in seasons |
| advantage | something that is beneficial or helps |
| disadvantage | something that is not favorable or hinders |
| instincts | a pattern of behavior in animals in response to stimuli |
| similar | resembling without being identical |
| unique | something that is one of a kind |
| stimuli | a thing or even that cause a particular response in an organism |
| adaptation | a characteristic that helps an organism survive in its environment |
| traits | a characteristic or behavior of an organism; examples: shape of a bird beak, color of flowers, number of legs |
| instinctive behavior | an unconscious or automatic behavior of an organism that is inherited from the parent and the animal is born knowing how to do |
| fossil | impression, track, remains or other evidence of ancient organisms found in sedimentary rock |
| evidence | facts or other information that support a claim or proposition |
| extinction | death of an entire species |
