Term | Definition |
Translucent | An object that allows only some light to pass through (ex: wax paper & frosted glass) |
Transparent | An object that allows virtually all light to pass through (ex: clear window & plastic bottle) |
Opaque | An object that does not allow light to pass through; the light is either reflected or absorbed by the object (ex: book & wood) |
Reflection | The bouncing of light, heat, or sound off a surface (ex: tinted car window) |
Refraction | The bending of a wave, such as light or sound wave (ex: camera, telescope, and eyeglasses) |
Convex | Lens rounded like the exterior of a circle; focuses light to form image |
Concave | Lens where a surface curves inwards; spreads out light rays |
