Vocabulary Words

Translucent An object that allows only some light to pass through (ex: wax paper & frosted glass)
Transparent An object that allows virtually all light to pass through (ex: clear window & plastic bottle)
Opaque An object that does not allow light to pass through; the light is either reflected or absorbed by the object (ex: book & wood)
Reflection The bouncing of light, heat, or sound off a surface (ex: tinted car window)
Refraction The bending of a wave, such as light or sound wave (ex: camera, telescope, and eyeglasses)
Convex Lens rounded like the exterior of a circle; focuses light to form image
Concave Lens where a surface curves inwards; spreads out light rays
