Nasal Cannula | nasal prongs delivers 1-6 L/min of O2 of 24%-44% O2 delivered to nose & mouth doesn't effect eating check for irrigations |
Simple Face Mask | delivers 5-8 L/min O2 of 40%-60% will interfere w/ eating & talking provide skin care under mask |
Venturi Mask | ventimask delivers 4-10 L/min O2 for 24%-55% check for irrigation keep air entrapment port open & uncovered keep mask snug, make sure no kinks in tubing |
Partial Rebreather Mask | Mask w/ reservoir bag delivers 6-15 L/min O2 for 70%-90% high O2 keep reservoir bag 2/3rds full pt rebreathes 1/3rd exhaled air |
Nonrebreather Mask | delivers O2 60%-100% keep bag inflated w/ flow rate remove mucus,etc make sure valves open & close make sure )2 dosent disconnect |
Tracheostomy Collar & T-bar or T-piece | face tent, face shield delivers 8-12 L/min & FIO2 varies change to nasal cannula during meals make sure aerosol mist escapes from vents empty condensation from tubing keep exhalation port in the t-piece open & uncovered position t-piece doesnt pull |
CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) | a machine providing air flow through face mask for obstructive sleep apnea |
BiPAP (Bilevel Positive Airway Pressure | similar to CPAP offers 2 pressure flows used for central sleep apnea |
Mechanical Ventilation | for those inable to oxygenate adequately always check client first then check ventilator |
Pulmonary Angiography | invasive procedure, cath inserted through vein into pulmonary artery injects iodine Interventions-allergies to iodine or seafood, NPO 8 hrs before, emergency resuscitation equipment near by After-dont take BP in same arm as injection for 24 hrs |
Electrocardiography (ECG) (12-lead) | a test to diagnose heart rhythm irregularities and arrhythmia's also to detect location & extent of heart attack Interventions-determine client ability to lie still, breath normally, & refrain from talking, document cardiac meds their taking |
X-ray | determines the size, outline, & position of heart, lungs, vessels can show fluid around lungs, pulmonary congestion\ Interventions-remove jewelry, not pregnant |
Holter Monitor | A 24 hr electrocardiography tracing while the pt performs daily living. Identifies dysrhythmias & effectiveness of antidysrythmics and pacemakers attaches to chest w/ 1-4 electrodes & carried on belt or shoulder strap Interventions-avoid baths, showers |
Angiography | Dye (contrast medium) is injected into blood vessels to see them better. Detects blockages Interventions-check for seafood, iodine, or radiopaque dye allergies- can be medicated w/ antihistimine & steroid. After check groin, injection site, must lay flat |
