Term | Definition |
Compartment Syndrome | A condition in which increased tissue pressure in a confined space decreases blood flow |
Crepitus | The sound or feel of broken fragments of a bone grinding against each other. |
Direct Force | Direct blow, injuries from direct force occur at the point of impact |
Indirect Force | A force that causes injury some distance away from the point of contact |
Nontraumatic fracture | A broken bone resulting from a disease that causes degeneration and dramatic weakening of the bone |
Osteoporosis | Increased bone weakness - risk of broken bones- Elderly spine, hip forearm |
paraesthesia | A prickling or tingling feeling that indicates some loss of sensation |
Splint | Any device used to immobilize a body part |
Twisting Force | A force that twist a bone while one end is stationary |
