TermDefinition
Compartment Syndrome A condition in which increased tissue pressure in a confined space decreases blood flow
Crepitus The sound or feel of broken fragments of a bone grinding against each other.
Direct Force Direct blow, injuries from direct force occur at the point of impact
Indirect Force A force that causes injury some distance away from the point of contact
Nontraumatic fracture A broken bone resulting from a disease that causes degeneration and dramatic weakening of the bone
Osteoporosis Increased bone weakness - risk of broken bones- Elderly spine, hip forearm
paraesthesia A prickling or tingling feeling that indicates some loss of sensation
Splint Any device used to immobilize a body part
Twisting Force A force that twist a bone while one end is stationary
