fable | very short ; where the characters are usually personified animals that teaches a moral or a lesson Examples: Aesop’s Fables, The Tortoise and the Hare, The Boy Who Cried Wolf |
legend | usually has some connection to a real historical person or event, combining factual and fictional events with exaggerations that are not meant to be humorous Examples: King Arthur (The Sword in the Stone), Robin Hood |
myth | explains something about the world such as frightening or mysterious natural forces or how something came to be Examples: Venus, The Midas Touch |
Fantasy (F) | A story that contains magical elements such as nonexistent world, talking animals, and or other creatures and objects or people with superpowers. Examples: Harry Potter, Twilight, Eregon, and Witch & Wizard |
