Absorption | A route of exposure where a toxin enters the body through skin contact. |
Ingestion | A route of exposure where a toxin enters the body by eating or drinking it. |
Injection | A route of exposure where a toxin enters the body by using a needle to administer a toxin into your bloodstream. |
Acute exposure | Exposure to a relatively large dose of toxin over a relatively short period of time (hours/days). |
Chronic Exposure | Exposure to a smaller dose of a toxin over a longer period of time (months/years) |
Dose | The amount of toxin an organism takes in (milligrams per kilogram of body weight) |
Mechanism of action | How the toxin is affecting the target (what problems does it cause the target?) |
Form of a substance | The chemical or physical make up of the toxin (phase, chemical formula) |
Synergism | When 2 or more chemicals are in the body at the same time, the effects of these toxins are heightened/increased. |
Antagonism | When 2 or more chemicals are in the body at the same time, the effects of these toxins are lowered/decreased. |
