Allele | The different forms of a gene such as a dominant or recessive, represented by a letter. |
Dominant Gene | Represented by a capital letter. |
Recessive Gene | Represented by a lower case letter. |
Sexual Reproduction | Two parents produce an offspring with a mix of traits from both parents. |
Asexual Reproduction | One parent produces an offspring that is one exact copy of the parent. |
Chromosome | Carries genetic information that controls inherited characteristics such as eye color. |
Gene | A set of intructions for an inhereited trait found in a section of DNA. |
Trait | The specific forms of a characteristic that are passed onto offspring through genes. |
Heredity | The passing of traits from parents to offspring. |
Homozygous (pure bred) | Two of the same alleles; both dominant or both recessives; RR or rr. |
Heterozygous (Hybrid) | Two different alleles; one dominant with one recessive; Rr |
Phenotype | The physical characteristic of a person (visible trait). |
Genotype | The genetic makeup of allele combinations. |
Dominant Allele | An allele whose trait is always visible when the allele is present. |
