Term | Definition |
Assumption | A belief that something is true: a good experiment keeps these to a minimun |
Control Group | The group of test subjects that do not ge the independent variable: they are used for comparison |
Controlled Variables | Condition in an experiment design that could influence the outcome and must be kept constant |
dependent Variable | The data that is collected in an experiment |
Experimental Group | A group of test subjects that the scientist run their experiment on because they receive the Independent Variable |
Graduate Cylinder | An instrument or tools that is used to accurately mesure volume of liquids |
Hypothesis | An educated guess that predicts the outcome of an expeiment |
Independent Variable | The Factor that the scientist changes in the experiment |
Inference | A conclusion or deduction based on observation |
Mass | A measure of the quantity of matter in an object |
Meniscus | A curved surface at the top of a liquid in a container |
Observation | Any information that is collected with any of the senses |
Peer Review | The process by which scientists carefully examine the work of other scientists to look for possible flaws in there experimental design or there interpretation of results |
Scientific Inquiry | The activities through which students develop knowledge and understanding or scientific ideas, as well as an understanding of how scientists study the natural world. |
Theory | An explanation supported by many observation and/or experiments that can be used to explain related occurrences. |
Validity | An experiment is said to have this when it is repeatable and produces the smae results |
Volume | The space occupied by something |
