Matter | -Anything that occupies space and has mass. |
Mass | -The quantity of matter an object has. |
Element | -Substances that can't be broken down chemically into simpler kinds of matter. |
Atom | -The simplest particle of an element that retains all of the properties of that element. |
Nucleus | -The central region of an atom. |
Proton | -A positively charged particle within the atom. |
Neutron | -A particle without charge within the atom. |
Atomic Number | -The number of protons in an atom. |
Mass Number | -Is equal to the total number of protons and neutrons within the atom. |
Electron | -Negatively charged particles inside the atom. |
Orbital | - a three dimensional region around the nucleolus that indicates the probable location of an electron. |
Isotope | -Atoms of the same element that have different number of neutrons. |
Compound | -Made up of atoms of two or more elements. |
Chemical Bond | -The attractive forces that hold atoms together. |
Covalent Bond | -The bond between to atoms that share one or more pair of electrons. |
Molecule | -The simplest part of a substance that retains all properties of that substance and can exist in a free state. |
Ion | -An atom or molecule with an electrical charge. |
Ionic Bond | -The attractive bond between negatively and positively charged atoms. |
