nucleus | a structure found in Eukaryota cells that contain DNA and is responsible for controlling the activities of the cell |
Euraryotic | a cell containing a membrane- enclosed nucleus and organelles |
Prokaryotic | a cell lacking a nucleus or ant other membrane-enclosed organisms |
unicellular | an organism made up of one single cell |
multicellular | an organism made up of more that one cell, and often made up of different types of cells |
classification | the process of grouping things based on similarities |
taxonomy | the branch of science that formally names and classifies organisms by their structure, function, and relationship |
Domain | the highest and largest rank of grouping organisms Three groups: Archaea, Bacteria, and Eurarya |
Domain Bacteria | prokaryotic, single-celled organism that lacks a nucleus in its cell |
Domain Archaea | prokaryotic, single-celled organism that lacks a nucleus in its cell and can live in extreme enviroments |
Domain Eukarya | orgamisms with cells that contain a nucleus |
Kingdom | a taxonnomic rank below Domain 6 Groups; Animalia, Fungi, Platae, Protista, Archaea, and Eubacteria |
autotroph | an organism that is able t make its own food; known as a producer in food chain |
heterotroph | an organism that CANNOT make its own food;known as a consumer in the food chain |
asexual reproduction | a method of reproduction that requires only one parent 100% DNA from 1 parent |
sexual repraduction | a method of reproduction that requires both male and female parents 50% from 1 parent and 50% from 1 parent |
cell theory | states that all living organisms are made up of 1 or more cells; cells are the basic unit of life and all cells come from other cells |
Kingdom Archeabacteria | unicellular, asexual, auto and heterotroph, prokaryotic organism that live in extreme enviroments |
Kingdom Eubacteria | unicellular, asexual, auto and heterotroph, prokaryotic organism that live in moderate enviorments |
Kingdom Protista | uni- and multi-cellular, sexual or asexual, auto and hetero-trophic, eukaryotic organism that are microscope |
Kingdom Fungi | uni- and mult-icellular, sexual and asexual, hetero-trophic, eukaryotic organism; known as a decomposer in the food chain |
Kingdom Plantae | multi-cellular,sexual and asexual, auto-trophs, eukaryotic organism; known as a producer in the food chain |
Kingdom Animilia | multi-cellular, sexual and asexual, hetero-trophic , eukaryotic organism; known as the consumer in the food chain |
