Term | Definition |
weathering | the breaking down of rocks on Earth's surface into smaller pieces. |
erosion | the process of moving sediment from one place to another. |
deposition | the dropping or settling of eroded materials and/or sediment. Dropping off sediment in a new location. |
compaction | sediments are pressed closer together as the pressure of the layers on top of it presses downward. |
cementation | process that holds all of the compacted sediments together. |
sediment | bits of rocks, soil, sand, shells, and the remains of organisms. Small pieces of rock that can be the result of weathering of larger rocks. |
