weathering the breaking down of rocks on Earth's surface into smaller pieces.
erosion the process of moving sediment from one place to another.
deposition the dropping or settling of eroded materials and/or sediment. Dropping off sediment in a new location.
compaction sediments are pressed closer together as the pressure of the layers on top of it presses downward.
cementation process that holds all of the compacted sediments together.
sediment bits of rocks, soil, sand, shells, and the remains of organisms. Small pieces of rock that can be the result of weathering of larger rocks.
