Term | Definition |
Matter | Everything that has mass and takes up space. |
Element | A substance made of only one kind of atom. |
Metal | Good conductors of heat/electricity. Can bend without breaking. Most are a grey color. |
Nonmetals | Don't conduct heat/electricity very well. Can be a solid or gas. |
Semimetals | Sometimes like metals sometimes like nonmetals. |
Atom | The basic building blocks of matter. Can't be any smaller. |
Atomic Theory | States that everything is made of matter. |
Compound | A type of matter made of 2 or more elements. |
Molecule | The smallest particle of a compound that still acts like that compound. |
Proton | Positive charge. Found in the nucleus. |
Neutron | No charge. Found in the nucleus. |
Electron | Negative charge. Orbits the nucleus. |
