community | combination of all of the different populations that live and interact in the same environment |
competition | the struggle between organisms to survive in a habitat with limited resources |
consumer | organism that obtains food by eating other organisms |
decomposer | organisms, such as fungi and bacteria, that break down and absorb nutrients from dead organisms |
ecological niche | A specific role of a species within an ecosystem, including its use of resources, and relationships with other species |

prey | an animal that is hunted and killed by predators |

scavenger | A carnivore that feeds on the bodies of dead organisms |
