What happens when you inhale? | The diaphragm contracts and moves downward at the same time as the rib muscles. The pressure decreases and air rushes into your lungs. You inhale. |
What happens when you exhale? | The diaphragm and ribs relax and the pressure increases. The air rushes out of your lungs. You exhale. |
What is gas exchange? | When air enters the alveolus, and oxygen passes through the capillary wall into the blood. The reverse happens with carbon dioxide. |
What is breathing? | When air moves in and out of your lungs. |
What is respiration? | When a chemical reaction happens in your cells. |
