AUTOTROPHS | Producers make their own food; Capture the sun's energy, turning it into carbohydrates through photosynthesis |
HETROTROPHS | Consumers unable to make their own food; Need to consume others or their waste for energy |
HERBIVORES | Eat plants |
DECOMPOSERS | Break down of organisms and wastes into organic molecules. The organic molecules become part of the soil used by plants. (i.e., worms, bacteria & fungi) |
CARNIVORES | Eat other animals |
SCAVENGERS | An organism feeds habitually on refuse. (i.e., Crows, Vultures) |
OMNIVORES | Eats both plants and animals |
FOOD CHAIN | Shows which animals eat other animals or plants. Traces flow of energy and nutrients through single ecosystem from one organism to another. |
FOOD WEB | Complex pathway of interconnected food chains in an ecosystem |
