Term | Definition |
Phloem | the vascular tissue through which food moves |
Xylem | water and minerals, that travel through vascular tissue |
Pollen | tiny structures that contain the cells that will later become egg and sperm cells |
Seed | a structure that contains a young plant inside a protective covering |
Embryo | a young that develops from the zygote, or fertilized egg |
Cotyledon | one or more seed leaves |
Germination | occurs when the seed absorbs water from the enviroment |
Rootcap | protects the root from injury from rocks as the root grows through the soil |
Cambium | a layer of cells, which divide to produce new phloem and xylem |
Transporation | process by which water evaporates from a plant's leaves |
